Lacy violas on my dress

This dress is the longest lasting project by far. I started to crochet these viola shaped motifs 10 years ago. Making all the motifs piece by piece was the easiest part. It took me a while to put them into a dress pattern. I tried different variations of crochet nets between flowers, combined floral pieces with other motifs and nothing looked right to me. Every time the dress was almost finished i had to undo stitches and start it again. There were months of breaks, and even years...

Once, I realized that the lacy structure of the viola pieces faded because of the background. The farther the flowers were placed from each other the better they looked. Their scalloped edges just needed more air.
