The dress from Michael Kors resort collection was described in a retail store as a "fabulous retro-inspired dress with flowery crochet trims, long bell sleeves and flared hem ... ".
It reminds me of 60-s and 70-s crochet fashion.
The original designer's model is made of cotton and cashmere which probably provides a modern bias-cut silhouette. Last year I made a budget interpretation for myself from a wool-acrylic blend. Unfortunately the dress appeared too bulky so i didn't wear it.
Barbie's dress is from a soy silk thread. (I wish I had tons of silk for full-size projects)
